* Countries participating for the first time ever as a team
** Observer
*** Guest team
Although most delegations have submitted their online registrations to the IPhO 2008 Organizing Committee, some delegations have not completed their team selection. Those delegations should complete the list of team and send their registration forms to IPhO 2008 Organizers forthwith. Based on the online registration forms, the Organizers will instruct the Immigration Department to send Visa Authorization Letters to the Vietnamese diplomatic offices (Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate) where delegations would like to apply for their visas. We would advise you to inform us without any further delay so that you can obtain your visa in time.
1. Announcement of Guest-of-Honor at IPhO 2008
We are privileged to announce that Professor Jerome Friedman from the Physics Department, MIT, USA, a Nobel Laureate, has accepted our invitation to be present at IPhO 2008 and will hold discussions with participants at the Olympiad.
2. Insurance
It is recommended that delegates take up suitable travel and medical insurance in their own country. In accordance with the Statutes of the International Physics Olympiad, the IPhO 2008 organizers will not be responsible for any medical expenses incurred by the leaders, students, observers and visitors during their participation at the Olympiad.
3. Computing facilities for delegation leaders
The International Board meeting room will house the necessary computing equipment for your use, including computers and printers. Each participating team is provided with one personal desktop computer with Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2003 installed. The organizers encourage leaders to bring their own personal laptops/computers installed with appropriate Western fonts and supplied with USB ports. In the event that leaders do not bring computers along, kindly send us the installation package for your language font localization and a hard copy of your local font test page for comparison. Our IT support team will install the necessary software for your language localization prior to your arrival.
4. Use of Calculators
The only calculator models accepted for use during examinations must be non-programmable, cleared of memory and incapable of word processing. Contestants may bring their own graphing rulers and calculators into the examination venues. No other form of aid will be allowed. Pens and paper will be provided. The organizers will however still provide one handheld calculator for each contestant
5. Use of Phones
Leaders and contestants are prohibited from communicating with one another throughout the duration of the examination, starting from the commencement of the International Board meeting until the completion of last respective papers (either Theory or Practical). During this period of time, mobile phones will be collected from contestants.
6. Transportation from Airport to Hotel
The most convenient way to Hanoi is by air through Noibai International Airport, located some 45 kilometers from town. Staff from the Organizing Committee will meet the delegations and provide transportation to the hotel by bus, from 5 p.m on 19 July to 12 p.m 20 July, 2008.
Should there be any change to your flight schedule, please let us know well in advance so that the organizers can make appropriate arrangements.
